Set in the jungles of India and the bustle of London, WHERE THE SERPENT LIVES tells the story of two families whose shared histories are all that is holding them together. But when terrorists try to bomb London, they are forced to look at each other, and themselves, as they really are.
Rosamund is not the woman she once was. With an errant husband and a difficult teenage son, she finds herself unhappy with her lot. But despite the urgings of her friends and her own increasing anxiety, she stands by husband Tyler’s side, convinced that despite his shortcomings he is emotionally dependent on her. Furthermore, their son Russel has turned to drugs and is bent on a path of self-destruction. Beaten up by his gang and alienated by his parents, he turns to his only companion, his imaginary snake.
Meanwhile, deep in the heart of India, herpetologist Richard is haunted by fantasies of Rosamund who he has loved since their university days together. But it is his wife, Irena, Rosamund’s closest friend, who suggests that Rosamund come to India to escape the concerns of family life in London, and rediscover her independence.
Her visit is ruptured however by news of the terrorist bombings in London, and Rosamund must return to England and a life more changed than she could have imagined…
In the jungle, danger is always hidden. You might not see a tiger through the trees, or a cobra in the undergrowth. But even in the safety of London, things are not always as they seem, and danger can lurk in the most unexpected places.
