About The Man Who Was Loved

Set in sixteenth-century Venice, THE MAN WHO WAS LOVED chronicles the life of Marin Gaspari who, at the point of death, through an extraordinary act of will, accesses an ability that will enable him to survive – the ability to make people love him.

As he grows older, he finds that he can win for himself almost any man or woman he chooses, but comes to realize that he himself is purely incidental. They are merely falling in love with someone else all over again.

When the city is struck by a strange plague and unseen tides reach out to drown its inhabitants, the citizens look to Marin Gaspari to save them, believing him to be the reincarnation of a saint who sacrificed his life to the city hundreds of years before.
