Howard Marks has squatter’s rights in the world of crime. And it shows
- Graham Hurley
What happens when the hero who once saved your life also turns out to be a criminal and a murderer? This is the dilemma DS Catrin Thomas faces when the body of her ex-lover is found dead in the dark waters of Cardiff Bay. It appears that he died after brutally attacking a woman, then killing another man while high on drugs. This is the official police version. But despite the overwhelming evidence, Catrin feels she has a moral obligation to investigate further.
The same night, Catrin is contacted by her former rival, the glamorous Delyth Davies. Catrin is told that her ex was in possession of certain unusual photographs the night that he died… Fifteen years have passed since the supposed suicide of Britain’s most famous Indie rock star, and his body has never been discovered. But these photographs appear to show he could still be alive. Is this just a hoax, or something more sinister?
Catrin now has no choice but to co-operate with the woman she dislikes in order solve the riddle. As she investigates, Catrin finds herself drawn into an underground world of obsessive fans, fringe psychics and secretive cults. She must now confront her own dark past and the intensely destructive relationships she’d thought she’d left behind forever. To discover the truth she must travel to a remote island; the former site of a series of paranormal experiments from the 1970s.
This is that rarest of things, crime fiction written by a genuine criminal mastermind.
Born in 1945 in Kenfig Hill, a small Welsh coal-mining village near Bridgend, Howard Marks rose through Oxford University and the British Secret Service to become ‘the most sophisticated drugs baron of all time’ (Daily Mirror). In 1996 Howard wrote his autobiography, MR NICE, which remains an international besteller in several languages, and in 2001 compiled THE HOWARD MARKS BOOK OF DOPE STORIES. His third book, SENOR NICE: STRAIGHT LIFE FROM WALES TO SOUTH AMERICA, was published in 2006.
In 1997, Howard performed his first live shows which received excellent reviews throughout the national press, and his now legendary one-man comedy show, An Audience with Mr Nice, continues to sell-out at venues throughout Britain.
Howard Marks has his own hugely popular website and cannabis seed company (Mr Nice Seed Bank). SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL will be his first novel, and begins a fantastic new commercial franchise.
