Nadifa Mohamed’s debut novel, BLACK MAMBA BOY, is to be published by HarperFiction. Set in 1930s Somalia, the novel charts one boy’s long walk to freedom through dangerous, conflict-ridden East Africa, based on the true story of the author’s father’s life.
Acquiring editor Clare Hey says, ‘BLACK MAMBA BOY opened my eyes not only to the horrors endured by the people of East Africa in the early part of the Twentieth Century, but also my heart to how much a human can endure when confronted by great hardship. It’s a stunning story and is made even more heartrending by the fact it began as a homage to the author’s father.’
HarperFiction bought UK and Commonwealth rights and will publish in early 2010.
