Steve Baker’s debut literary novel, HEMISPHERES, has been bought following a bidding war by Sarah Castleton at Atlantic Books for publication in Spring 2010.
The novel tells the story of a Falklands deserter who embarks on a mammoth journey home, wrought with challenge and hardship, to his wife and teenage son in Teesside, who both, after three years of silence, are finally beginning to accept they must move on without him.
HEMISPHERES is a startling debut moving from the bright gas flares of the Teesside regeneration to the shrill hammering of the bird colonies of South Georgia. Exploring chance, nature and our place within them, the hemispheres of the title refers not only to the globe but to the difficult spaces of the human mind.
Steve Baker is in his late thirties and works as an archaeologist in Derbyshire.
