Good news for optimists

Scheduled for delivery in December 2010, RAINY BRAIN, SUNNY BRAIN, the first popular title by Professor Elaine Fox, has been selling fast around the world. The current Head of the Brain Science and Psychology Department at the University of Essex, Professor Fox will write of her twenty years’ research into anxiety and fear, coupling that work with her more recent discoveries on the field of human optimism, including her identification, earlier this year, of the ‘optimism gene’. In America, the book attracted huge interest, with seven publishers bidding, culminating in a six figure deal on best bids with Lara Heimert at Basic Books. In Canada, Brad Wilson at HarperCollins fought off two rivals to acquire; in Britain, Drummond Moir won out against three other publishers; in Germany, Johannes Jacob emerged victorious for the C. Bertelsman list; and Swedish rights have been pre-empted by Suzanne Trygve at Norstedts.
