In 2009, Eddie Izzard ran 43 marathons (1110 miles) for Sport Relief, running around almost the whole United Kingdom. He raised over £200,000 for charity, and was joined along the way by many of his fans. He travelled with his tour manager, a sports therapist and an ice-cream van, which dispensed free ice-creams to supporters as he ran.
But what made him think he could do it? And why would anyone want to?
His new book, MARATHON MAN, will answer these questions (and some you hadn’t asked). The book was bought last week by Antonia Hodgson of Little, Brown, in a 7 way auction for UK & Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada). In his own humanely idiosyncratic and highly comic voice, the book follows Eddie round the country - as he revisits places from his past, and encounters some entirely new ones.
MARATHON MAN is planned for publication in September 2010.
