John Bradshaw’s A BILL OF RIGHTS FOR DOGS has now been sold in three different continents after a string of deals concluded last week. The proposal, which explores the way that dogs see the world around them, has now sold to Basic Books in the USA, Rizzoli in Italy and Record in Brazil.
Each chapter will be headed by a clause from an imaginary Bill of Rights, summarising what dogs would ask for if they knew how to speak. The intention is not to demand rights for dogs in the sense of “animal rights” – rather, the aim is to achieve a greater understanding and appreciation for the special place that dogs hold in human society.
Having been bought at auction by Will Goodlad, A BILL OF RIGHTS FOR DOGS will be published by Penguin in the UK, and is set for delivery in July 2010.
