Canongate has just bought the rights to a collected volume of work by the artist David Shrigley. Editorial director Nick Davies acquired ‘the definitive collection of David Shrigley’s mordant, moving and defiantly original work — both old and new’ from Patrick Walsh, after strong competition with Random House.
Shrigley, known for his quirky and original drawings and postcard collections, has exhibited widely throughout the world as well as directing music videos for Blur and Bonnie Prince Billy. He has previously published several books with Redstone Press.
His fans include author Will Self, who described him as ‘an artist who achieves that rarest phenomenon: the capacity to make his audience view the world in his terms entirely.’ Canongate will publish the book as a large-format hardback for Christmas 2010.
