Sarah Moore Fitzgerald is a professor and associate vice president at the University of Limerick in Ireland, specialising in organisational behaviour and effective pedagogy in higher education. She has published several non-fiction books on teaching, learning and academic writing and she runs regular writers’ retreats for academics and students in Ireland and internationally.

She was born in New York in 1965 but grew up in Dalkey, Co. Dublin. She studied psychology at University College Dublin and received her PhD from Cranfield University in the UK. Though proud to be a Dubliner, she often finds herself wishing that she was in fact from Florence. She hopes one day to be able to speak Italian fluently, and has shown some progress in fulfilling this ambition by being able successfully to order a large beer (una birra grande) while holidaying in Viareggio.

In an effort to stay healthy, she also runs quite regularly, an activity she rarely enjoys. In 2008 she completed the Dublin Marathon - very very slowly. She lives in Co. Clare with her partner Gerard and their three children: Eoghan (13) Stephanie (11) and Gabriela (5).
