One of the authors who changed the face of Young Adult fiction, Kate Cann has been writing novels for teenagers for fifteen years, with eighteen titles published. She sells well in the Netherlands, Sweden and Germany, where her honesty about teenage sexual relationships is appreciated. Her books are gritty and realistic, but unlike much current YA fiction which is darkly depressing, she focuses on aspiration and self-actualisation.
LEAVING POPPY, which was shortlisted for the Booktrust Teenage Prize and won three awards including the prestigious Angus Award, was her first work of ‘teen gothic’ fiction. The two Rayne books are also in this genre.
Kate lives in Hampshire with her husband. They have two grown-up children. Alongside her nineteenth YA title, she is working on a novel for adults.
