Emma Griffin has been working on the history of recreation for nearly a decade. In 2000 she submitted a prize-winning PhD on the History of Popular Recreation in England to Cambridge University, and in the same year was elected to a fellowship at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. She has since written ENGLAND’S REVELRY for Oxford University press (a study of popular pursuits during the industrial revolution) and contributed several articles to scholarly journals. She has also written for BBC History magazine and appeared on BBC radio and television. In 2004 she held academic positions in New York and Paris before moving to Sheffield University to take up a position as a lecturer in early modern history.
