Emma Gieben-Gamal is a distinguished design historians. She won the Penguin Book Prize (awarded each year by the Royal College of Art for the best thesis submitted). She is the author with Andrea Wulf of THIS OTHER EDEN: Seven Great Gardens and 300 Years of English History. Having written widely for design and architectural magazines, they set up their successful design consultancy, Gieben–Wulf Cultural Research, in 1999, which led them to work for clients across a diverse spectrum from NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) to schools and the owners of various stately homes.
