David Black and his main character – Special Forces team leader Pat Farrell - are so close as to be synonymous. ‘I was a part-time SAS Special Forces soldier leading exactly this kind of double life,’ says Black. Like his character, Black worked as a London taxi driver during a tenure as a Territorial SAS member, ready to be called into action in times of national emergency. The principal difference is that the author is now retired from the forces, while his fictional counterpart is left to content with ‘the real world… with direct relevance to the grisly global horrors being perpetuated today.’ David Black is a pseudonym, used to protect the author’s identity and the integrity of his former regiment.
