Christos H. Papadimitriou is one of the world’s most important theoretical computer scientists. He currently holds the Lister C. Hogan Chair at the University of California at Berkeley. He has been awarded numerous honorary doctorates and other distinctions including the Charles Babbage Prize. Bill Gates is one of his former pupils. He is the founder of the non-profit organization Thale and Friends, which is dedicated to exploring the relationship of mathematics to narrative and bridging the gap separating mathematics from ‘culture’ at large.
