Being an agent allows me to do what I love best: discovering new and original voices, and helping debut writers launch brilliant careers. My favourite established authors – Michel Faber, David Mitchell, Anita Shreve, Lian Hearn, to name a few – best illustrate what I look for in the writers I represent: exceptional prose and a true originality of vision. Alongside my love of literary fiction I find science fiction and fantasy very exciting – if it’s dark, quirky and unusual, or even if it’s simply a non-genre novel with near-future or dystopian elements, please do send it over. YA and high quality commercial fiction is also very welcome. And humour – humour is always a treat.
So that’s the writing, but what about the writer? There are no prerequisites except that I’m always looking for authors who want a long-term career and in return I will do everything to help shape, edit – and sell – their books.
